WELCOME
REEAPS is a research project funded by Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai. This is envisaged as a dynamic and organic environmental science communication project covering farmers' stories across India, whose farming practices and wisdom are rooted in traditional/indigenous knowledge. A website named “REEAPS” is the brainchild of this project where the objective of documentation of traditional indigenous Knowledge in the form of stories with reference to sugarcane farming in Maharashtra and Karnataka. It also aims to leverage resources and build a science communication ecosystem consisting of farmers, research faculty, and students. The role of facilitating outreach opportunities for students to appreciate traditional knowledge and create awareness of agriculture, sustainability, and climate action is the thrust focus for the project through a website and other communication methods.
The team of REEAPS includes Dr. Saranya Thaloor (Associate Professor, SK Somaiya College, SVU) who is the Principal Investigator of the project along with Dr. Parvathi JR (Assistant Director, SIRAC) and Dr. Daly Davis (Associate Professor, SK Somaiya College, SVU) as co-investigators. An enthusiast team of students: Ms. Priyanka Gajare (BAMCJ, SKSC), Ms Geethalakshmi K (Research Teaching Assistant, SKSC) and Ms. Isha Popat and Ms. Krusha Shah (Interns, SIRAC) also provides support for the project.
